After plunging headfirst off a fishing skiff at 21 miles per hour, Aliex Folgueira decided to take to a motorized fishing kayak instead, spending nearly $6000 on the new rig according to a video the angler shared.
Slower pace, stellar stability
“Oh my god we’re going faster than I thought. We’re going 3.3 miles per hour,” shared Folgueira, impressed with the speed of the motorized fishing kayak. “So I’m just gonna stand up here. Moving water, super windy. I feel like at home dude. I don’t feel like I’m flipping or anything like that.”
While the sport of kayak fishing has humble beginnings, lately motors and gadgets have taken the industry by storm. While many keyboard warriors argue that with that much tech on a kayak, you might as well get a bass boat, even the most teched-up kayak comes with distinct advantages over the bass boat in maneuverability, transportability and ability to access tight or shallow waterways.
For Folgueria, there were other advantages as well.
“Hoping I don’t lose my balance again,” commented Folgueria, harkening back to his recent wipeout on the fishing skiff.
“This feels very stable right here,” shared Folgueria, standing on the fishing kayak he motored along. “If I lose my balance I can just fall back to the seat.”
Commenters unsurprisingly noted that for $6000, you can just as easily purchase a bass boat.
