On a glassy blue day on the water, Johno from FishJustGotReel hooked into two fish simultaneously on two different rods, and one of them was a serious fighter.
“What. This is not what I was expecting,” Johno said as his rod bowed, nearly ripped out of his hands. “That’s a good fish. I don’t know what to do… I’m probably gonna get tangled up.”
Epic battle with mystery fighter fish reveals something smaller than imagined
From his fishing kayak, Johno maneuvered to keep the two lines from tangling while the mystery fighter fish continued to dive and thrash.
“Just struggling for my life about to lose both these fish,” said Johno. “I don’t want to get sharked. This thing’s not coming up at all. He just keeps digging.”
As one fish broke off the line, the mystery fighter fish kept diving, causing some good old fashioned kayak fishing chaos.
“Please don’t get sharked. Please don’t get sharked,” said Johno as the epic, several minute-long fight continued.
Eventually the fish surfaced.
Fights like a giant, tastes like a five-star meal
“Are you serious?” said Johno.
At the end of his line is a triggerfish – a big triggerfish, but certainly smaller than the monster imagined based on the battle. Johno went on to measure his catch which came in at 18 inches.
“It fought like a giant, looked like a rough draft but tastes like a five-star meal,” Johno wrote in the caption of the video.
