While fishing for red snapper, an angler found themself as the only thing standing between an innocent snapper and a “blood-thirsty” [see: food web] dolphin.

“This is reason 955 why dolphins are a**holes,” the video posted by Southern Salt Bait Company opens as the angler pulled a snapper out of the water.

Dolphin thwarts kayak angler’s rescue attempts on behalf of red snapper

“Uh oh, dolphin’s coming!” the angler said to the fish. “Come on get your butt up here now!”

Once the snapper was safely in the boat the kayak angler began to explain the situation to his catch.

“Now, let me brief you on something buddy. We got us a bit of a problem out here. Now trust me, I want to send you back into that water but we got two bogeys on our six right now and I am team red snapper the whole way,” he explained, gesturing to the dolphins lying in wait.

“He’s waiting on you, not gonna lie. The worst thing that could happen to you today is not being in this kayak right now, I promise,” the angler continued.

“We’re gonna do this together. I’m going to launch you – launch you – off the side of this kayak,” he coached the fish. “I want you to swim like you’ve never swam before in your life, do you understand?”

The snapper did not reply.

“Do you understand!?” The angler repeated, presumably to convey the gravity of the predicament to his catch.

“He’s looking the other way, go! GO!” The angler cheered as he launched the snapper through the air and into the water.

“He made it!” The kayak angler said before the dolphin swooped in for the kill. “Oh, he didn’t make it.”
