On a cold and cloudy day in southeast Texas, YouTuber Will of Fishing by the Numbers was out in search of crappie when he encountered the local game warden instead.
When asked for his fishing license, Will began to search for his license only to realize he had lost his wallet. But no worries–one of the game wardens recognized him.
YouTuber makes game warden famous
“I can look you up man! What’s your handle on YouTube?” said the game warden as Will searched for his lost wallet.
It took Will a second to recognize the game warden, Steven, from a previous encounter but when he did it made for an exciting reunion.
“You made me famous,” the game warden joked, referring to a viral encounter from the previous year.
Will chatted with the game wardens and continued to search for his wallet. In the meantime, he was able to provide confirmation of his fishing license on his phone while he continued to search his layers.
In their initial encounter a year ago, Will told wardens Steven and Drew to go ahead and check his fish first before his license–a nice roster of 14 fish that impressed even the game wardens! One of the comments on the initial video reads “the fishing was so good he called the warden on himself!”.
The comment alone got 72,000 likes, and Will’s initial video was viewed by 3.3 million people.
Where does the fishing license money go?
In a follow up comment to his most recent video, Will shared that he did later find his wallet in his vest, which was secured under his jacket and beneath his PFD. Will also noted that the fees collected from fishing licenses are used to stock local lakes and waterways, build and maintain habitats for fish and game and to support state parks.
In addition to funding improved access to waterways and habitat maintenance, fishing licenses also contribute to data on demographics and participation in angling.
