Leave it to Matt Nelson to show what kind of action you can get out of a surface lure. The YouTube video creator under the handle NDYakAngler is known for throwing some rather absurd-looking lures to garner the attention of trophy fish. In one of his latest, he proves that even during the depths of winter, this topwater rat lure will entice bass.
At the end of January, Nelson searches for open water and finds a North Dakota lake to fish. He decides why not make things interesting and see if he can catch anything with a topwater lure in winter. The power plant nearby is likely warming the water a bit but still, getting largemouth to rise to the surface and smash his rat lure seems an unlikely notion.
As usual, the angler proves these outlandish lure designs are just too tempting to let by.
I love this guy’s videos. Not I feel like I need to leave work and hit the water – thanks!
