When Kokatat unleashes a new product, expectations are very high. Born and raised in northern California, Kokatat’s outer, inner and underwear must be top quality. So, I was stoked when Kokatat came out with the new Bahia Predator PFD and Super Nova Angler in Gortex.
Kokatat Bahia Predator PFD
I’ve been using a Bahia Predator for over a year without complaint. The Cordura material is tough and easy to clean, I just spray it off after each trip and salt and slime wash away. It’s also nearly impossible to damage and doesn’t fade in the sun.
They included two pockets on the front. A thermoformed semi-soft pocket holds tackle box and folds down for a work surface. I keep safety items like whistle, PLB and strobe in the duplex pocket. A series of Molle straps on the front are easy place to clip other accessories. The high back and mesh lower fit my kayak seat without interfearing with rising up.
The PFD takes Kokatat’s line of accessories and attachments including the Tributary hydration system. When it comes to PFDs, it’s what’s inside that counts. The Bahia Predator is built out of GAIA PVC free foam that doesn’t use environmentally harmful chemicals and is completely recyclable. What I love most about my Kokatat PFDs is the foam is shaved and shaped to fit like a glove.
Kokatat Super Nova Angler Dry Suit in Gore-Tex
New for 2017, Kokatat will offer their Super Nova Angler dry suit in Gore-Tex fabric. Anglers have been asking for a Gore-Tex version of the popular dry suit, and Kokatat delivered and more. In addition to a Gore-Tex upper and socks, they added Cordura on the legs to defend against sharp hooks and fish spines. A full-front zipper makes it easy to get in and a relief zipper makes it easy to get out. The No Cinch neck and latex wrist gaskets are comfortable and dry. Adding the Gore-Tex element makes this dry top easy to wear all day without overheating and keeps the water out in an emergency. They even offer the Gore-Tex model in two new colors: sand and bright red.
