The Pelican 2750 headlamp lays on the floor of a fishing kayak surrounded by random fishing gear.

The Pelican 2750 headlamp is so light you will forget that you’re even wearing it. While testing it out on a night fishing trip, Kayak Angler editor, Ric Burnley writes: It’s almost midnight and I swing into the Gas and Sip to pick up a late-night foamy fuel and salty snack. I run in, hit the junk aisle, hit the beverage cooler and head to the register. The woman behind the register has several facial tattoos. By this hour, I’m sure she’s seen some strange people. But she looks at me like I’m a weirdo! That’s when I realize I still have my headlamp on, and the light is shining in her eyes.

As a die-hard night fisherman, my adventures often take me into the dark side. A good headlamp is as important as a great rod and a the right lure. After going through lamps heavy with features I didn’t need or use, I settled on Pelican’s 2750 headlamp. At just 3.5 ounces with three AAA batteries, the lamp is almost undetectable. One reason I forgot to take it off before hitting the convenience store.

Most people know Pelican for their indestructible cases trusted by pros in many disciplines. Night fishermen trust Pelican for their indestructible and crazy bright lights that can survive the marine environment. The 2750 is a worthy addition to this line. In bright mode, the light has 193 lumen to blast objects up to 100 yards away. In low mode, the lamp produces 63 lumens perfect for up-close work without blinding the angler. Or, to preserve night vision, use the red LED. The lamps can also be set to flashing mode to signal distress.

The 2750 uses LED lights that are bright without producing too much heat. And they last almost forever. They LED’s produce a brilliant blue light that is surprisingly bright yet still soft enough to work. The lamp has an adjustable strap and a rubber back to stay in place and stay comfortable for hours of fishing. I can even angle the lamp to shine the light on my lap to unhook a fish or tie a knot then angle it out to shine on a channel marker or signal a boat that I’m in the area.

The whole package comes in a high-impact plastic, Pelican’s signature. It even comes with batteries that are easy to install. The lamp is water resistant; we have tested it in rain and salt spray without fail. But the small size and light weight make it easy to forget I’m wearing the light. Until the weird lady at the convenience store looks at me funny.
