A resurfaced viral video, first posted online six years ago, reminds us just how simple a fishing vessel can be.
While kayak anglers continue to push the boundaries of elaborate builds, angler Tim here is fighting a shark from about as light a craft as you can get. YouTube creator Zak Catch Em’ captured footage of his group in a sport fishing boat discovering an angler named Tim hooked into a shark that was towing him two miles from the beach. This statement would sound rather unexceptional were it not for the fact Tim’s vessel is a unicorn innertube.
Zak mentions they are off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, and they begin to ask Tim a series of questions. One obvious one is how he got there. Apparently, he got there from the beach, being towed out into the Atlantic. They eventually wrangle Tim, his damaged floatie, and, most importantly, the rod with a fish on the line into their much bigger boat. Eventually, this boisterous crew brings what they I.D. as a sandbar shark to the surface.
Let’s step back and state this is likely a YouTube stunt staged for viral fame. Regardless, seeing Tim sitting in the unicorn tube with the rod doubled over is absurdly entertaining to watch. And, even if it is staged, it’s surprising Tim wasn’t pulled out of the tube within moments. Most of all, we’re happy he was wearing a life jacket.
