On a cold March day on the Sudbury River in Massachusetts, two black labs chasing a flock of geese broke through thin ice and fell into the river.
With the owner of the dogs about to jump in and swim through the icy waters out to his dogs, Zach Lalonde, kayak angler and YouTuber, was quick to action.
Dogs Rescued on the Sudbury River by Kayak Angler
“I’ve been waiting for a carp to bite for a while now,” Lalonde recounts in his video. “I’m just sitting here, and I see this guy’s dogs come running out across ice chasing some geese that just landed and I was thinking to myself they’re going to the edge of that ice… gets pretty thin.”
Lalonde paddled across the river to the struggling dogs, who were unable to get traction to climb out of the water on the slippery ice. Lalonde dragged one dog out of the water and onto his fishing kayak. After an effort, he dragged the other dog back up onto the ice, where he safely made it to shore.
“The owner was fully ready to swim in there after them but I was already there in my kayak, and it could’ve been more dangerous for him to do that, so I don’t want to hear any bashing on his side,” wrote Lalonde on his YouTube.
