We caught up with David Hadden of Esquif Canoe at Canoecopia 2024 to hear more about the new Cargo 15 Fishing Canoe.
First Look: The Esquif Cargo 15
The Cargo 15’s story begins with the popular Cargo 17— a popular fishing canoe by Esquif. Weighing in at 95 pounds, the Cargo 17 was a little heavier than what most anglers are looking for, and difficult to transport via car top.
Enter the Cargo 15; a square-stern fishing canoe, the Cargo 15 takes all of the best parts of the Cargo 17 but aims to be more car-top ready and portage-friendly. At just 65 pounds, the Cargo 15 is significantly lighter than its older cousin, meaning that the Cargo 15 can be transported on the roof of your car rather than by trailer. Additionally, it’s possible to portage the Cargo 15 in to deeper wilderness lakes to score even better fishing.
The Cargo 15 has the hull of the Miramichi 18, but the square stern to keep it motor-compatible. With a 41” width, the Cargo 15 is stable enough to stand and sight fish or fly fish in.
