Imagine not only catching a trophy-worthy bass, but then turning to an audience of strangers, greeted by applause and cheering. Angler Grant Langmore lived that dream on video when he caught an 11-pound, 8-ounce bass from his fishing kayak right in front of a restaurant in a fight so epic he garnered an audience.

Kayak Angler met with applause after catching bass in front of restaurant

Langmore was fishing in front of a restaurant of then-uninterested diners, conveniently near a statue of a largemouth bass, when he felt a tug on his line. It wasn’t until Langmore hooked the bass and it leapt through the air that the restaurant patrons began to notice what was unfolding.

“Oh my god guys I’m hooked,” said Langmore to the camera.

As an epic and very splashy fight ensued, a crowd at the restaurant gathered to cheer Langmore on with shouts, whoops and clapping as he pulled the bass out of the water. Onlookers cheered “let’s go buddy”, and “you can do it” and in the case of one onlooker a simple, excited “YES!”.

“Holy cow,” said Langmore as he inspected his mammoth catch.

“Hold that up for us,” someone in the crowd called.

“There’s a look at that monster, how big is that thing?” Langmore said as he showed off his fish before reviving it and sending it on its way.

Commenters noted that there was a distinct chance that a hardy diet of french fries contributed to the size of the bass, and that had Longmore not caught it on video no one would have believed that he caught a big bass and everyone stopped to cheer and watch.
