There are a long list of kayak fishing PFDs on the market and Onyx has added one more great vest to the line-up.

The Kayak Fishing vest is low profile with paddle specific foam design. Six adjustment straps keep the PFD in place and keep it from slipping and sliding. A high foam back is out of the way for sit-on-top kayak seat with a breathable mesh back that won’t get funky. They added padded neoprene shoulder pads that won’t slide or cut into the wearer. The PFD is made of 400 denier nylon material that is tough and easy to clean.

Onyx Kayak Fishing vest is full of features at a great price.

It’s the pockets that make a fishing PFD and Onyx has them covered. A one-button push drops the tackle pocket. There’s zippered fleece pockets to warm hadns and a zippered chest pocket. My favorite is the large cargo pocket that is big enough to hold my VHF radio. The best feature of the Onyx Kayak Fishing vest is the price: $69.95.

For 2017 they are also offering a new Youth Paddle jacket that fits kids 50 to 90 pounds. And a Universal Paddle PFD that fits any body size and accommodates high back seats. Perfect for that second PFD for guests and friends.

“Thank God my dad wasn’t a podiatrist,” Ric jokes about following in the footsteps of a famous outdoor writer. After graduating from Radford University and serving two years in Russia with the Peace Corps, Ric returned to Virginia Beach and started writing for The Fisherman magazine, where his dad was editor. When the kayak fishing scene exploded, Ric was among the first to get onboard. His 2007 book, The Complete Kayak Fisherman is one of the first how-to books to introduce anglers to paddle fishing. In 2010, Ric took on the role of editor at Kayak Angler magazine where he covered the latest trends in kayak fishing tactics, tackle, gear and destinations. A ravenous angler, Ric fishes from the mountain to the sea chasing everything from smallmouth bass to striped bass.
