Three casting models and a spinning model use a shorter rod butt that offers more space to work the rod around a life vest and makes it easier to cast from a seated position.

Three of the rods use existing Cashion blanks with fine-tuned action for cranking, flipping and worms. The crankbait rod uses a graphite blank that performs like a parabolic fiberglass rod but with improved sensitivity. The spinning rod also provides high sensitivity for finesse fishing and the worm rod has a counterweight in the butt to improve comfort and ergonomics when slowly dragging a worm along the bottom.

For the kayak Chatterbait rod, Cashion created a unique kayak-series action allowing the angler to work a Chatterbait free of the grass without putting the rod under heavy pressure.

The grips on Cashion rods comprise a fiberglass and carbon fiber weave that is super light and still provides plenty of grip when wet and slimy. While standard fishing rods are great for many fishing tactics, these four models perform rolls that are challenging for kayak anglers.

“Thank God my dad wasn’t a podiatrist,” Ric jokes about following in the footsteps of a famous outdoor writer. After graduating from Radford University and serving two years in Russia with the Peace Corps, Ric returned to Virginia Beach and started writing for The Fisherman magazine, where his dad was editor. When the kayak fishing scene exploded, Ric was among the first to get onboard. His 2007 book, The Complete Kayak Fisherman is one of the first how-to books to introduce anglers to paddle fishing. In 2010, Ric took on the role of editor at Kayak Angler magazine where he covered the latest trends in kayak fishing tactics, tackle, gear and destinations. A ravenous angler, Ric fishes from the mountain to the sea chasing everything from smallmouth bass to striped bass.
