To optimize the advantages of forward-facing sonar, Berkley released Forward Braid braided fishing line to complement their line of lures designed to perform with the latest fish finder fishing tactics.
First Look: Berkley Forward Braid & PowerBait Drip Minnow
Forward Braid
The new Forward Braid uses a unique longitudinal construction. Traditional braided line braids thin filaments like braiding a ponytail. Then, the line is coated to improve durability and performance. Forward Braid, on the other hand, twists the filaments and then thermally joins them to create a more durable and water-resistant line.
The process increases casting distance so the angler can reach fish at the edge of the forward sonar field of vision. Then, the line maintains its integrity to repel water and sink faster to quickly reach the strike zone. Then, the increased sensitivity makes it possible to feel a fish bite before I see it on my fish finder screen. These features come together to make Forward Braid ideal for finesse fishing with forward-facing sonar.
PowerBait Drip Minnow
Buy from:
When the water is crystal clear and the bass are wise to other lures, I grab an ultra-realistic PowerBait Drip Minnow. The small soft plastic is molded over an internal core to create lifelike depth and color patterns that perfectly imitate a real baitfish. The long thin tail provides subtle action when the lure is stationary, perfect for finesse fishing in front of indecisive predators.
I like the realistic eye, fins and ribs that make the Drip Minnow look like a real minnow. I can use the soft plastic with a jighead, drop shot or weedless hook and the ultra-realistic appearance makes it irresistible to finicky fish.
