Don’t ask me why, but when I’m on the water shooting the next episode of Kayak Angler’s web series Hook, Line & Paddle, I carry a handful of GoPro batteries, rather than relying on a single, aftermarket battery pack. Maybe it’s my paranoia about getting camera gear wet, or maybe I’m just too lazy to get a different kid of battery. Regardless, I need a way to quickly charge my batteries, usually midday and on the water, and it has to be fast.
That’s way when I first used the Go Charger, $49.99, from re-fuel by DigiPower, I was pumped. Finally something that was slim and easily slipped into a small dry bag that would let me keep the shoot going all day long, or even longer. Since I can charge either one or two batteries at the same time and up to four times on a single charge, with the push of a single button, I can keep swapping out batteries to charge and shoot at the same time. Oh yeah, that’s why I don’t have just one battery pack.
I recently used the Go Charger on my cross country road trip to fish with Morgan Promnitz of Hobie Fishing, and this thing was my dream come true. Instead of ending the day early to go charge up some batteries, I was able to drop two batteries into this quick charger and have them both charged up before the next battery died. Which, if you’ve shot video all day on the water with a GoPro before, you know that’s pretty fast.
The capability to charge batteries up to four times on a single charge meant that I could keep my batteries charged up to film while we were driving, and save my truck bed’s battery pack for more important things like my laptop and cell phone. If you need something that can quickly charge up your camera batteries, won’t take up too much space in your pack and is super simple to use, the Go Charger is what you’ve been waiting for all these years.
