One of my most effective baits that I ever throw is also one of the smallest. The Rapala Ultra Light Crank has been deadly for me all year long, but when bass start looking for smaller baits in the fall, that’s when it can’t be stopped. That’s why the new Ultra Light Pop is going to be my new go-to topwater lure.
The lip of the UL Pop, $6.49, is shaved at the bottom, giving it more of an edge to cut deeper into the water and therefore cup more water on the retrieve. Instead of the classic straight line of the underbelly, Rapala designed this topwater lure with a curved belly, giving it more of a swimming action on the retrieve. This lets the lure dive a little deeper in the water, giving each pop more versatility and potency.
Available in eight different colors like Fire Tiger (below) or Lime Frog (at top), the UL Pop will catch any fish in the area, including big fish. Just because the lure is smaller than you’re used to throwing doesn’t mean you won’t get a big fish to bite. When fish are keyed in on smaller baits, as they are every fall, that includes the big fish looking for their meal. Think of it like chicken nuggets for bass, they just can’t get enough.
VMC Black Nickel Round Bend Hooks and 3D Holographic eyes keep the lure looking alive, and it weighs 1/8oz.
