Costa Del Mar’s Schoolies are a new, small-frame pair of sunglasses. Because of that, they are perfect for kids or small faces. Why is that important? We often talk about proper safety gear in kayak angling, and that includes a pair of shades that block UV, are polarized, and fit correctly. Not only will this take care of the eyes of fishing’s next generation, it also means they will be comfortable and enjoy the sport.

The Schoolies also include all of Costa Del Mar’s technology and design. This starts out with their 580 polycarbonate lenses. They are shatter-resistant, which means if lures or sinkers come flying, these lenses won’t shatter and break. They’ll protect your eyes. They also have the 580p polarization that reduces glare almost better than any other pair of sunglasses available

The Schoolies come in several different lens options to match the type of fishing that you’re doing. They have all the Costa Del Mar features like padded arms, padded nose, and ventilation. It’s part of an emerging lineup they are referring to as the Next Generation. And this is to provide fishing tools for younger people so that they can have the same sunglasses that adults have with the same protection and the same features, so they can really get in the game.

The Schoolies are available from Costa Del Mar.

“Thank God my dad wasn’t a podiatrist,” Ric jokes about following in the footsteps of a famous outdoor writer. After graduating from Radford University and serving two years in Russia with the Peace Corps, Ric returned to Virginia Beach and started writing for The Fisherman magazine, where his dad was editor. When the kayak fishing scene exploded, Ric was among the first to get onboard. His 2007 book, The Complete Kayak Fisherman is one of the first how-to books to introduce anglers to paddle fishing. In 2010, Ric took on the role of editor at Kayak Angler magazine where he covered the latest trends in kayak fishing tactics, tackle, gear and destinations. A ravenous angler, Ric fishes from the mountain to the sea chasing everything from smallmouth bass to striped bass.
