The Sunglasses Tested In One Of The Most Demanding Places On Earth

The Bajio Greenland sunglasses are packed with little features we love

One of the coolest pairs of new sunglasses I’ve seen are the Bajio Greenland sunglasses. Bajio has really come on the scene in the last few years for creating some very innovative, high-quality sunglasses that are still in an affordable price range. The Greenlands are their flagship model right now, and they are actually called the Greenlands because they were tested in Greenland by fishing rivers there to test not only their capabilities, but also their durability.

The Greenlands include polarized lenses, which are 100-percent UV blocking, 90-percent yellow light blocking, and 95-percent blue light blocking. They are also available in either a glass or polycarbonate lens.

I like that they are a large frame, but also that they really wrap around your face, almost like a pair of goggles. This completely blocks the sun but still allows ventilation so that moisture and heat can escape the glasses—this way you don’t overheat or fog up the glasses. There is also a sweat shield at the top to keep sweat from rolling down on the inside of the glasses, and also blocks light from coming inside the glasses. There are rubber pads on the nose and on the arms.

Speaking of the arms, one of my favorite features on sunglasses now are these flexible hinges, which the Greenlands use, that actually bend out a little bit to really hug your face, but also make it easier to slide them on and off without tightening up your face. Plus, they don’t create as much pressure on your temples when you’re wearing them all day long. So really the latest in shades tested in one of the most demanding environments on earth.

“Thank God my dad wasn’t a podiatrist,” Ric jokes about following in the footsteps of a famous outdoor writer. After graduating from Radford University and serving two years in Russia with the Peace Corps, Ric returned to Virginia Beach and started writing for The Fisherman magazine, where his dad was editor. When the kayak fishing scene exploded, Ric was among the first to get onboard. His 2007 book, The Complete Kayak Fisherman is one of the first how-to books to introduce anglers to paddle fishing. In 2010, Ric took on the role of editor at Kayak Angler magazine where he covered the latest trends in kayak fishing tactics, tackle, gear and destinations. A ravenous angler, Ric fishes from the mountain to the sea chasing everything from smallmouth bass to striped bass.
