Ever since I first reviewed Marsh Wear Clothing’s original lineup of Performance sun shirts way back when (read that review here) I’ve been a big fan of the brand and the guys behind it. Not only do they know they stuff, they’ve also created a brand that I can get behind, putting out some great product, with killer marsh-inspired style, without digging into the wallets of anglers in the process. When they created their newest shirt, the Bulls Bay Tech shirt, $49.95, they sent me one right away for testing, with a hand written note. What brand does that? One that seriously cares about their product and the fishermen that wear them on the water.

The Bulls Bay Tech shirt is more expensive than the first shirt that I tested from Marsh Wear, but the second you take it out of the packaging you’ll see why. Designed to be “ultra comfortable,” the lightweight fabric is made from a heathered poly/spandex blend which makes it feel buttery smooth and soft as a kitten. The super lightweight material also feels great against the skin, no matter how hot (or how seriously cold it gets, like on my Adirondack trip) and the strechable material moves with your body, not against it. I look for shirts that offer great protection, but don’t restrict my casting or paddling at all, one of my biggest pet peeves, and the Bulls Bay Tech shirt is so comfortable it almost feels like there’s no shirt there at all.
The two-tone shirt also looks like the baseball shirts I used to refuse to take off when I was in school, except they fit better and feel better than those ever did. Some anglers hate all the gaudy graphics and logos all over their shirts (even though others *cough* bass guys *cough* love it), and Marsh Wear designed the Bulls Bay Tech shirt with a minimalist aesthetic those anglers are going to love. Aside from the small “M” logo that shows off your Marsh Wear pride, the shirt is plain throughout. Not only is that a cleaner look, but the lack of lettering also makes sure the sun can’t catch on the different colors, allowing you to blend in to the sky as if you’re a mixture of a blue bird day with a cloud here and there. If you don’t like the Tidal Blue and Heather Grey style (although how could you not, how cool does that look), the shirt is also available in a Heather Grey and Seafoam color scheme.

The fabric of the shirt features a 30 UPF rating to protect your skin from the sun and the lightweight fabric is so breathable and quick-drying that you’ll barely feel it, even on the hottest and muggiest days. A Dry-Tec moisture treatment also helps to wich away moisture from your body so you can get your sweat on without worrying. Once you do start trying to stink up the place the odor resistence built into the shirt will let you go to the bar right from the water and not freak out members of the opposite sex (although your sunglass tan and marsh muck stains might).
Other smart features like a tagless label show that Marsh Wear pays attention to even the smallest of details. If you’re in need of a new fishing shirt, the Bulls Bay Tech Shirt from Marsh Wear is worth more than just a serious look. Try it out on the water for yourself. If you tell me you don’t think it’s one of the softest shirts on the water, I’ll never believe you caught a big fish when you tell me again (not that I did anyways).
