A lot of people want to get into kayak fishing, but they don’t have the space or means for transporting one of the hulking hard-shell fishing kayaks. And in that case, inflatable fishing kayaks are a great choice. The problem has always been, inflatable kayaks often sacrifice performance compared to hard-plastic kayaks. Sea Eagle has worked tirelessly for years to even the playing field, and their latest iteration is the 385fta FastTrack Angler.

The FastTrack Angler has been around for a little while, but they’ve made some very important updates that are going to increase and improve the performance of this boat.

An inflatable fishing kayak with a V-hull

One of the big things that they’ve done, and a unique feature on an inflatable fishing kayak, is they’ve given this boat a V-hull. You might think, “Why is that a big deal?”A V-hull improves tracking and speed because it puts more of the kayak in the water. Whereas a traditional inflatable kayak with a flat floor floats on the surface of the water.

When the wind starts to blow, the current starts to move, and it just pushes a flat-hulled kayak wherever it wants to. This V-hull is going to keep the kayak planted so when you paddle, it doesn’t get pushed off course.

The boat still has a drop-stitch floor, and that type of chamber is much stiffer and more sturdy than just a regular inflatable chamber. But these drop-stitch floors have usually been flat. Somehow, Sea Eagle has figured out a way to shape those chambers so that they can get a V shape out of it.

Improved outfitting and rigging

Not to be outdone by the V-hull, they’ve also added rod holders in the bow and the stern. They’ve added an improved footbrace so you have a place to put your feet, and solidly support your paddling. They’ve even added a swivel seat, which, how many hard-bodied fishing kayaks do you even see with one?

So, the Sea Eagle FastTrack Angler is a boat you can really pack up and put into a bag and carry it with you, and match the performance of other popular fishing kayaks.
