To meet the needs of the next generation of kayak anglers, Old Town redesigned their fiver-year-running Sportsman line with the latest features to support motors and full electronics packages in the introduction of the new flagship Sportsman PDL 120 Pro.
Features of the new Old Town Sportsman PDL 120 Pro
The Sportsman PDL 120 Pro starts with the stable and high-capacity Sportsman hull and reliable PDL drive and adds elements to turn the boat into a formidable tournament fishing platform.
One of the biggest upgrades to the Sportsman line with the new Pro is at the bow of this boat. To mount a bow-mount trolling motor, like the new MinnKota Kayak Terrova, the bow includes four pre-drilled inserts for a standard trolling motor base and a through-hull port to run wires. The huge bow hatch holds a 12-volt battery. Vertical rod holders on either side of the seat increase the rod-storage capacity.
The redesigned seat rides on gear tracks in the deck for infinite adjustability with plenty of storage space beneath the seat. Thru-hull ports and small hatches are strategically placed to route wires for lights, electronics and motors. Old Town has also added miles of gear tracks in the cockpit, bow and stern to attach cameras, rod holders, electronics and other accessories.
On the water, the PDL pedal drive is easy to pedal and boat control comes from a large, sturdy rudder. The wide, hybrid catamaran hull provides rock-solid stability for stand up fishing. The PDL pedal system is easy to operate in forward and reverse and easily pushes the heavy Sportsman.
The Sportsman models have been known for stability and sea worthiness. Now the new PDL 120 Pro adds rigging details that make it easier to add motors and electronics and carry more gear and tackle so anglers are competitive on the tournament trail.
The new Sportsman is also available in the ePDL+ 120 Pro model, which includes Old Town’s battery-power-assisted pedal drive.
