Due to an outpouring of interest in recent reader surveys, Kayak Angler magazine has made the decision to rebrand as Motorized Kayak Angler magazine, effective immediately. Paddles have had a good run, but in this modernized world motors are propelling the industry forward.

They told us to just buy a bass boat. What is a bass boat really if not a large, unpaddleable kayak?

As the fishing kayak evolves to be physically impossible to paddle, so do we too here at the magazine formerly known as Kayak Angler evolve to meet the needs of our beloved readers. A sport that was once rooted in hopping on the water with a rod, PFD, a humble kayak and paddle has now become about the best and sickest rig only. It’s time for us to lean in.

Much like a phoenix rises from the ashes, we here at the magazine formerly known as Kayak Angler to rise from the ashes of humble fishing kayak, now totally souped up, tricked out and ready to tear it up with the latest and greatest in motors.

Besides, in this economy, who can afford a true bass boat? The next best thing is a totally rigged up fishing kayak, complete with a massive outboard motor that can help you throw a wake, at least seven or eight different screens for fish finding and a lava lamp for mood.

Readers react to rebrand

“Honestly, this was a long time coming,” shared avid kayak fisherman Offen Skunked. “How many of us really want to be the ones moving the kayak anyhow, when we could be spending that precious time dragging a lure behind the kayak and catching nothing at all?”

Skunked went on to add that with motors, it’s really the bigger the better.

“We’re here to fish first, kayak second,” shared Skunked. “And frankly, maybe not kayak at all.”

  1. I’m all good with the move. I would think you would still want to have stories or a separate mag that speaks to unpowered rigs? They aren’t going away. Not everyone can $$$ a powered kayak rig. And there are locations where you wouldn’t be able to use a yak motor due to conditions, rules, etc.

And – the physics that make an excellent paddle yak are quite different IMHO.
