This kid really loves to fish. Ryu Tsukada holds the giant halibut that weighs as much as he does.

Alaskan kayak fisherman, blogger and youtuber, Rudy Tsukada (GuidesAK.blogspot.com) is a regular contributor to Grip and Grin reader photos on Kayakanglermag.com. His son Ryu’s 60-pound halibut proves the boy is a chip off the ol’ block. 

We launched early in the morning on a super foggy day. We were hoping to pedal out two miles to fish in 80 feet of water but the fog kept us within a mile of the beach. 

Ryu’s halibut was the first fish of the day. After a big bite, Ryu was able to winch up the fish without much trouble. Unfortunately, my shot with the harpoon found the halibut’s hard head. When the harpoon bounced off, the fish made a strong run as Ryu held on for dear life. My second shot was successful and I deployed the buoy.
