A few weeks ago my good buddy from the Great White North (Canada) asked me if I ever tried Liquid Mayhem. Never hearing of the stuff before, I wasn’t sure what he was asking me. “Is that some kind of fishing steroid?” I asked. “Get ripped and catch fish at the same time?” After a laugh he sent me a tube of Liquid Mayhem Fish Attractant from his own personal stash. That’s a friend right there.
I’ve never really messed with scents before, just because I haven’t thought of it whenever I’m in the local tackle shop. Usually because I’m looking for a new fly tying material, to be honest. But within the first few casts of fishing with this Liquid Mayhem Fish Attractant, I was hooked up on a nice 15″ late season smallmouth bass, even with a stiff wind and cold front raging overhead. Can’t argue with those results.
Originally designed to catch bass, the attractant also works well on walleye. The scent is made from real crawfish and contains “natural baitfish enzymes infused with powerful amino acids and other bite stimulants.” Whatever is in this little tube, it definitely helped me hook up on that cold fall day and definitely made the fish hit harder than they should’ve been, at least this late in the season. Scent can also help by making the fish hang on to the hook longer, giving you more time to set the hook. Which for most of us, that’s all the help we need to have a great day on the water.
