I’ve never listened to music on the water before, not because I’m against it, but because I could never figure out a good system that worked well and was worry-free. When I was walking around the halls of Outdoor Retailer, I found just what I’ve been looking for. The Red Fox Wireless Rover Mountable Speaker, $99, is IP7X certified waterproof, shock proof and dust proof, which means you don’t need to worry about ruining your speaker while kayak fishing, or even running rapids.
The coolest feature on the Rover speaker though, is the fact that is is so mountable. Red Fox Wireless designed the speaker with a universal 1/4-20 three mount at the base, so you can mount it to your tripod or camera mounts that you already have, or many kayak fishing mounts that use this mounting system. Red Fox has also recently partnered with multiple kayak fishing gear companies to offer kayak fishing specific mounts like gear track mounts or ball joint mounts.
Another great feature of the Rover is that it’s 100% wireless. Connect your device to the Rover via bluetooth and control it using the over-sized, easy to use buttons. You can even take phone calls on the wireless speaker and answer/hang up via the buttons on the side, in case your boss calls while you’re reeling in a fish (which has happened to me before, shh don’t tell).
With so many mounts available from Red Fox Wireless and the ability to use your own mounts already, there’s nowhere this speaker can’t go. The Rover even comes with a caribiner so you can clip it in to your backpack or tackle bag, turn it up, and go. Ever since I started rigging up my rods with music in the background, I’m not sure I can go back to the sound of just my anticipation to get on the water ringing in my ears. Now I can relax, rig up the right way, instead of rushing, and make every launch with my buddies a party.
