When I put on a pair of sunglasses, I need to know that they’re going to perform. What’s the point of wearing polarized shades if you can’t trust that they’re going to let you see every fish that passes by, or at least every fish within your field of vision. I knew that I had the right pair of glasses on this past summer of the flats of Cape Cod, MA when I was spotting fish left and right and my fishing partner could only see  one or two. He didn’t have the right glasses on.

For me, the best ones I can find have always been from Costa Sunglasses. Their Cortez frames, $229, are designed with a large fit that wraps around your face and eyes, so they can block more glare in your peripheral vision. Instead of constantly turning your head side to side to see the fish, no you can sight cast every minute your eyes are open. And of course, Costa’s 580 lenses block out 100% of UV light and have 100% polarization.

A linear venting system gets rid of foggy lenses and there are open slots on the temple tips for you to attach a retainer cord so you can keep your shades from falling into the drink. Though the hypoallergenic rubberized interior lining and nose pads are designed to prevent your glasses from falling off in the first place, which attributes to Costa’s famous “forget-they’re-on” fit.

Built from “nearly indestructible” co-injected molded nylon, and Costa’s sturdy integral hinge technology, you can be sure that these shades last season after season of hard use. The Cortez frames are available with 580P (plastic) lenses or 580G (glass) and a variety of colors. They’re also prescription ready so you can see every fish scale nice and sharp. The frames are available in seven different colors.
