Fishing sunglasses are great, but if you look like you’re wearing a pair of your grandfather’s bug-eye glasses and don’t want to wear them in public, then what’s the point. The new Angler frames from Spy Optic, $99.95, are designed with cool styling, but also feature 100% UV protection so you won’t fry your retinas when staring at the water all day.
Another great feature of the glasses is that they are so lightweight. The Grilamid constructed frames felt nearly weightless on my face and let me focus on the fishing, instead of the giant weight on the bridge of my nose, and are known to be extremely durable. The lenses themselves waved off the glare and are big enough that I can use my entire peripheral vision, instead of turning my head to catch a sneaky fish.
Available in seven different color schemes, the Angler shades’ lenses feature a green mirror finish, perfect for fishing inshore conditions. The lenses are a Polycarbonate 8×4-based Toric lens contruction, which means they won’t shatter or scratch easily, and will instead take your abuse. The nose pads feature Hytrel rubber, which made them stay put, no matter the weather or how much the fish splashed water into my face. An included lanyard means that even if these shades do fall off, however unlikely, they’re not going to fall into the drink.
