Old Town jumped into the pedal drive game with both feet introducing the new Predator PDL at the 2016 ICAST tradeshow. We got an opportunity to take a ride in the new PDL at the opening demo day.
The new boat still hosts all the great features we love about the Predator: open cockpit, solid stability, easy rigging and smart accessories. The new boat features design upgrades to accommodate the pedal system.
First, a new seat that is designed for comfortable pedaling. Then, a new rudder system that uses one knob to deploy the rudder and another knob to control direction.
“We went to every effort to make the Predator PDL an efficient pedaling kayak,” explains David Hadden, Brand Director at Johnson Watercraft.
On the water, their attention to detail paid off.
The pedal drive moves smooth, silent and efficient. The seat can be adjusted fore and aft to accommodate anglers from under five-feet tall to over six-foot. The boat cruised at 3 knots and switched quickly and quietly from forward to reverse.
